This evening both Bouhassoun and Draksler will be presenting new work, commissioned by KAAP and Concertgebouw Brugge. From various influences – from a collaboration with Jordi Savall to her study of ethnomusicology – Syrian oud virtuoso Waed Bouhassoun has forged her own inimitable style. That intimacy of lute and voice widens into the virtuoso octet of Slovenian Draksler, who combines the fruits of her studies of jazz and classical composition with her own ideas as an experienced improviser.
