This video installation consists of four monumental screens, set up in a square around a small stage. Using both language and gesture, performer Ivana Jozic enters into a confrontation with the music of Eric Sleichim and with well-known choreographer William Forsythe, who is projected onto the screens and to whom this performance is dedicated. The half-naked Forsythe is in the Anatomy Museum, in Montpellier, dancing like an ‘angel of death’ among the skulls and the body parts, preserved in formaldehyde.
Fabre wrote ‘The Angel of Death’, the text Forsythe recites, in 1996. This monologue for a man, a woman, or a hermaphrodite’, which was inspired by Andy Warhol, contains multiple ideas about authenticity and the immortality of icons. Fabre’s personal fascinations – with metamorphosis, the beauty of gender, dual identity and the contradictions inherent in being an artist – are all referenced. This elevates the installation into a meeting of three minds: Warhol, Forsythe and Fabre himself. On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December performer Ivana Jozic enters into the confrontation live, turning this monumental installation into a not-to-be-missed live performance.
