Seventeen dancers set society in motion
This first production for the full concert hall stage gave Flemish choreographer Jan Martens his ultimate international breakthrough. Martens gathers together a mixed bag of 17 dancers, aged from 17 to 70. Together, this atypical company represent the power that lies in 'being out of step'. It is a horizontal exercise in giving each other the necessary space to be, of embracing distinct identities and of not all marching to the same drum – in short, it is a compelling choreographic ode to civil disobedience.
