The 14th Bach Academy Bruges focusses on the essentials. If you add up the 'letter values' of the name Bach, the total is 14, a number that regularly appears in the music of Leipzig’s famous Thomas Cantor. In two concerts Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe shed light on both Bach's darker and his lighter side and once again present a handful of young soloists to the Bruges audience. The festival host himself will also be speaking. Organist Francesca Ajossa takes us along to the Romantic instrument in the Carmelite Church for the first time. Les Muffatti come to Bruges with no less than three of Bach's solo concertos. Ensemble Explorations delve deep into Bach’s The Art of Fugue. And, a must-hear: Isabelle Faust makes Bach's solo violin works shine like never before.
