In 2009 choreographer and composer Hofesh Shechter stunned the Bruges audience with his diptych Uprising and In your rooms. Especially for December Dance, he now returns with his latest trilogy, barbarians. It opens with the barbarians in love, which immediately, elegantly and intimately reveals Schechter’s typical choreographic style. Trembling with emotion, six white-clad dancers move to the tones of an eclectic baroque score. In what follows, Shechter demonstrates yet again his dancers’ versatility and individual talents: a joyous explosion of trance-like dubstep grooves in tHE bAD, and a poignant duet in Two completely different angles of the same fucking thing. Shechter worked in Tel Aviv with the Batsheva Dance Company and then moved to London. In next to no time he became the audience favourite of British dance stages.
