Inspired by the Bardo Thodol – the ancient Tibetan Book of the Dead – Huang Ruo's contemporary composition takes us on a journey through limbo: the distance and time between two lights – the light of the former life and the light of the next rebirth. This feeling of being in limbo – described in the Book of the Dead as a feeling of 'loneliness, in a place where one cannot go back, but does not yet know what is to come' – is a sensation that we also all feel at various critical points in our lives. Directed by Aïda Gabriëls and Tido Visser, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and HERMES Ensemble guide us along the spiritual path between two worlds.
