Eulogy to the beauty of the 'danse brute'
BRUT explores the relationships between individual and collective, between expressionism and béton brut and between freedom and restriction. Choreographer Kinga Jaczewska has a particular partiality for Brutalist architecture. It is from this that she derives her emphasis on functionality and deliberate simplicity and her radical approach to form and minimalist constructions. By focussing on the 'ordinary', Jaczewska calls into question the accepted view of what is spectacular.
