Choreographer-dancer Russell Maliphant has worked closely with lighting designer Michael Hulls since 1994. Together they have developed a unique dance language, in which movement and light are inseparable. Last year they celebrated their 20-year partnership in Sadler's Wells, London, with Conceal | Reveal, an evening- filling programme of new and longstanding work. Besides their iconic, award-winning performance Broken Fall - originally danced and created with dance legend Sylvie Guillem and Michael Nunn and William Trevitt (aka BalletBoyz) - the company will be performing two new creations. Both, and - once again a dialogue between movement and lighting - is a solo work for the former Royal Ballet dancer Dana Fouras. The quintet Piece No. 43 then explores Maliphant’s sculptural choreographic dance language, which incorporates elements from classical ballet, contact improvisation, yoga, capoeira and chi kung.
