Exploring the pre-Bach chorale world, Encantar’s four female singers (plus one male) browsed through the Habsburg composers of the (pre-)Reformation. This took them to Martin Luther’s contemporaries and co-religionists - among others, Johann Walter and Ludwig Senfl - and also to Bruges’ very own Arnold von Bruck, one of the greats of the Vienna court. Organist Bart Jacobs complements their early vocal music with choral arrangements from Bach's monumental Clavier-Übung III (German Organ Mass) from 1739. Our Lady of the Blind Chapel’s small but magnificent Berger organ from 1731 does full justice to these wonderful arrangements of chorales from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and the Mass chorales Kyrie and Gloria.
