With his cycle Tombstones, American composer Michael Pisaro-Liu keeps memories alive –not coincidentally, because that is also the aim of tombstones. Each piece is based on a small excerpt from a popular song: a melody, a harmony, or a few words from the lyrics. In this way Pisaro-Liu deconstructs old songs and in his own musical universe distils them into refined elegance. Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman and the Goeyvaerts String Trio bring these tombstones back to life.
