With his The Seasons –after an older painting by his father– , Pieter Brueghel the Younger painted a guide for a delightful tour through six centuries of music. From Monteverdi's O primavera, via Howell's masterpiece The Summer is Coming and Brahms' salute to the autumn of life Im Herbst, to the metaphorical winter of wartime France, harrowingly expressed by Poulenc. The high season comes with bad boy Clément Janequin’s bird calls and sounds of the hunt. It is musical theatre, I Fagiolini’s specialty.
