Multifaceted and colourful, in one word: Baroque. That, in a nutshell, is the zarzuela, Spain’s very own opera variant, which was wildly popular in 17th-century opera houses. In this first modern production of Sebastián Durón’s Coronis, directed by Omar Porras, singing and declamation, gods and wizards, lovers and clowns all come together. Le Poeme Harmonique promise impressive choruses, folk songs, grand arias… in short, vocal pyrotechnics. And you can go and enjoy all of this with Concertgebouw Brugge in the Opéra de Lille.
