Since its 1913 premiere, Le sacre du printemps – by composer Igor Stravinsky and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky – has inspired a whole host of artists. A century later, our fascination with that sacrificial ritual to honour the earth has become more compelling. Do we need to rethink our relationship with nature? And who is actually sacrificing whom here? Choreographer Michiel Vandevelde builds a bridge between the past and the future. He reduces Le sacre to a duet and expands Stravinsky's composition to include a new electronic epilogue.
