As is traditional, the Concertgebouw opens the New Year with the whirling dance music of the 'Kings of the Waltz' Johann Strauss Jnr and Snr. The star of the day is soprano Mercedes Arcuri, who – especially when conducted by Valentina Peleggi – is certain to pull out all of the stops in a selection from the operas and operettas of Rossini and Offenbach.
