Rosalba is a concert for young children, inspired by the ballad tunes of composer John Dowland and by Sandro Botticelli’s painting The Madonna of the Pomegranate. The two sisters Rosa and Alba are opposites. Alba waits patiently, like an ice floe in the surf. She is sad and she is cold. Her smile is frozen. Rosa teaches her a song: a lute song by John Dowland. Rosalba is like an enduring sound, a melodious melancholy.
