Bruges’s Joseph Ryelandt fared much the same as many other born musicians. First he had to study something serious: in his case, law. Eventually, however, music prevailed. A stream of inspired late-Romantic music ensued that is well worth rediscovering! His chamber music brims with melodic twists, just like that of his great example Brahms. Season’s composer Daan Janssens continues this Bruges history, with soft whisper music, from which melody and emotion emerge as new.
