A danced ode to female voices
Jan Martens has a great love of hidden musical treasures. For VOICE NOISE he browsed through a musical history of more than a century of female voices and selected a mix. Inspired by The Gender of Sound, an essay by Anne Carson about how the female voice was regarded as a disturbing noise, Martens and his ensemble of six dancers prove the opposite. Drawing on everyone's uniqueness and individual response, he redefines grace and elegance and turns dance into an ode to the female voice.
