As a child, Robyn Orlin saw black miners dancing for a white audience. Another practice she witnessed during that Apartheid era was every bit as determinant for this South African choreographer’s vision: Zulus transporting rich white folk around in rickshaws. These memories confront us with the darker side of Western mass tourism. With eight young dancers and Rebecca Horn’s Concert for Anarchy – a work for a grand piano suspended upside down from the ceiling – Orlin commemorates a black history.
