In an impressive set designed by visual artist Jim Hodges and to dark, haunting music by Winter Family, YAMA explores mythological tales about mountains. Drawing his inspiration from pagan and animistic rituals in the mountains of Tohoku, Japan, Belgian Damien Jalet created the hypnotic choreography. Jalet has previously collaborated with Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (with whom he won the Laurence Olivier Award in 2011 for Babel) and Marina Abramovic (a Bolero-interpretation for the Ballet of the Paris Opera). Scottish Dance Theatre are Scotland's best-known contemporary dance company. Under the artistic direction of Fleur Darkin, they constantly produce daring creations and regularly commission works from internationally renowned choreographers, such as Jo Strømgren, Anton Lachky and Victor Quijada. Thanks to a dedicated team of outstanding dancers, this repeatedly results in bold, powerful productions.
