On September 12th, the world famous Grenadier Guards, recognised as the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, are set to journey to Bruges, and their birthplace at the Royal Archery Guild of Saint Sebastian, for the commemoration of Belgium’s liberation in 1944, marking its 80th anniversary. The purpose is to pay tribute to the individuals who sacrificed their lives during World War I and II, keep the memory of these horrific events alive and to support a number of closely related charities.
For this important occasion, a Cenotaph Requiem Concert is scheduled at the Bruges Concert Hall on the evening of September 12th for 1000 people. This musical performance will be performed by the Band of the Grenadier Guards in collaboration with the Brussels Philharmonic, the Flemish Radio Choir and Flanders Boys Choir. The conductor will be Ivan Meylemans.
The money raised at this occasion will go integrally to related good causes and charities which enhance the relations between the United Kingdom and Belgium. These include the Colonel’s Fund, the Royal Belgian Benevolent Society, Talbot House in Poperinge, Flanders Fields’ Memorial Garden in London, the Royal Archery Guild of Saint Sebastian and Shout at Cancer.
