Monumental musical travelogue
During his romantic flight to Italy with his married mistress, Franz Liszt composed the second volume of his Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage). Michelangelo, Raphael, Dante and Petrarch filled the head of the young piano virtuoso and inspired an aural pilgrimage, in which he sets subtle splashes alongside monumental musical cascades with the greatest fluidity.
