In search of the savoir-faire of Schumann’s day
When we listen to recordings made by contemporaries of the romantic composers, we can barely believe our ears: tremulous tempos, fluttering rhythms, fluent intonation… Together with Anima Eterna and researcher Kai Köpp, violinist Midori Seiler is happy to draw inspiration from that resounding heritage. Clara Wieck-Schumann is the ideal test case: with music she wrote herself, works she premiered and pieces that were dedicated to her. Her friendship with violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim runs through the programme like a fiery leitmotif.
