In 17th century England the masque was top-level entertainment. The ingredients for these spectacular evenings were music, words, pantomime, stage effects and dance. 400 years separate the music of contemporary composer Shara Nova and that of early-Baroque composer William Lawes, but both found inspiration in themes of transformation and identity. In Music for the Multiverse, Continuum and Elina Albach reconstruct the revolutionary English masque tradition for the first time from a modern perspective.
Music by Henry Lawes (1596-1662), William Byrd (ca.1543-1623), Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) & Shara Nova (1974)
