Who does not succumb to Elgar's unparalleled Cello Concerto? Elgar composed this masterpiece as an indictment shortly after the First World War. No less haunting is Wagner's 'Vorspiel und Liebestod', from his opera Tristan und Isolde, in which he explores the thin line between eternal love and death. With his Poème de l'ectase, Alexander Scriabin also has great musical ambitions: he wants nothing less than to express the unification of mankind and the universe.

Soloist Truls Mørk is replaced for Elgar's Cello Concerto by French cellist Edgar Moreau.
