After Igor Stravinsky got his hands on it, ballet was never the same again. With his ecstatic ballet music, the innovation-hungry Russian kicked every traditionalist in the shins. In Petrouchka, for instance, the dancers not only balanced on the tips of their toes, they also teetered very dangerously on the edge of tonality. Bartók was also an enthusiastic musical rule breaker. In his Third Piano Concerto he seems to poke fun at classical conventions. Piano wonder Lukáš Vondráček makes every string (and every atom) of the keyboard thunder, rejoice and sing.
