Cult composer David Lang takes Beethoven’s Fidelio into the present

The Concertgebouw sees your health as its highest priority. Following the latest risk assessment of the further spread of the coronavirus, we are cancelling this performance. You can use this form to send us your choice of voucher or gift. Confirm your choice on the digital form before 15 April 2020 at the latest.

American Bang on a Can composer David Lang is fascinated by Beethoven's Fidelio, his only opera – for chamber orchestra, large male choir and four soloists. Taking Fidelio as his basis, Lang constructs a brand-new musical drama. The abuses portrayed are topical and of all times. The orchestra is both actor and eyewitness in the chronicle of an evil government and the fall of a political tyrant.
