Night 352 of One Thousand and One Nights tells the story of the white slave princess Zumurrud. Her story inspired the Brussels Jazz Orchestra to delve into the complex patterns of classical Arabic music. Iraqi composer and qanun player Osama Abdulrasol incorporates both his own story and that of Zumurrud in his music for this project, performed together with singer Jahida Wehbe. More than a union of Western jazz and the Arabic qanun, the arrangements are the result of a mutual fascination for both genres.
