Forget Digital Dolby Surround Sound! The Brussels Philharmonic and the live electronics of IRCAM bring us the real thing: the perfect soundtrack for the world’s first ever science fiction film. Fritz Lang’s black-and-white silent film Metropolis (1927) was not only a milestone of film history, it was also the most famous and expensive German film ever made: it required no fewer than 36,000 extras and 500 miniature skyscrapers. The Brussels Philharmonic accompany this monument live with a new music score by Martin Matalon, which makes the film even more compelling.
