Young string quartet strike a sensitive chord
Should musicians speak out on social issues? The young Castalian String Quartet thinks so! They play Ungrievable Lives by Charlotte Bray, thirteen miniatures for string quartet, each representative of one million children on the run. The work is accompanied by Schubert's last quartet, a brilliant mix of oppressive restlessness and lyrical sublimity, and Beethoven's melancholic and extremely compact ‘Quarteto serioso’. It would be a statement of the turbulent phase of life he went through. An evening oscillating between unbridled emotions.
