Part of Weekendpas Bach Academie 2022
When the ageing Bach visited Potsdam, Frederick II of Prussia gave him a musical theme and invited him to improvise a fugue on it. Bach met that challenge brilliantly. His improvisation grew into a rich a collection of variations in an old but simultaneously very modern style. Collegium leader Christine Busch is accompanied by, among others, Alexis Kossenko.
