‘Hands no longer shake hands, no longer caress faces, but they do still touch the piano.’ With these words, pianist Daan Vandewalle brought musical warmth and loving caresses to each of us in 46 mini concerts during the lockdown. In this concert a selection of those pieces – from Bach and Brahms via Stravinsky and Debussy to Satie’s Caress – is preceded by Frederic Rzewski's De Profundis. This American composer set to music Oscar Wilde’s prison writings about solitary confinement, falling masks, and ultimately rising again from the depths. Words and sentiments that are now particularly actual. Artist Gerda Dendooven lifts this exceptionally relevant work into a new dimension with live illustrations.
