Het Collectief immerse us in the sultry atmosphere of the Viennese art scene of 1900. It is a time of change: the Habsburg Empire is in decline, Sigmund Freud is probing the depths of the human soul, and Zemlinsky, Schoenberg and Webern are busy putting a bomb under the musical language of the Late-Romantics. Yesterday's world is gone forever! No wonder that this period produces such a wealth of melancholy music, which just happens to be the musical mother tongue of Het Collectief.
