When they performed NÄSS (People) in the Concertgebouw during December Dance 19, Massala Dance Company quickly became audience favourites and won themselves a minutes-long standing ovation. For OÜM they have drawn their inspiration from the deep and soulful contralto of Arab music’s eternal star, the iconic Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. In this contemporary performance, dancers and musicians bring to life an eternal trance in which song, poetry, dance and music come together to celebrate the present. The music resonates throughout the choreography and reflects the uniqueness of each dancer.
