The comforting beauty of music

Mendelssohn’s Sixth String Quartet – an homage to his deceased sister Fanny – is overflowing with melancholy. Equally upset by death is Weinberg’s Sixteenth String Quartet. And the lamentation continues in Defoort’s String Quartet, with a lullaby dedicated to the children of the Iraq War.
