The Indonesian War of Independence brought an end to Dutch colonial rule in Asia: a history that is still divisive. But what exactly happened there? And how did Indonesians experience their independence struggle? David Van Reybrouck conducted six years of research and spoke to the last surviving witnesses of this event, not only in the Netherlands and Indonesia, but also in Japan and Nepal. In his theatre performance Revolusi: a living history, our Season’s Thinker teaches us to see the Dutch East Indies through different eyes. Using beautiful images, gripping stories and intriguing persons, he reveals how the Indonesian revolusi still reverberates in our own time.
