The legendary phoenix is a symbol of hope. It lives its unpredictable life to the fullest, but then when the time is ripe, is happy to let it go. It dies in flames, but is born again – with renewed beauty – from its own ashes. This performance looks at the phoenix through the eyes of one of Iran’s greatest mystics and wordsmiths: Attar of Nishapur who lived in the 12th century. Shahab Azinmehr translates Attar's book The Conference of the Birds into music, and sings the song of the phoenix together with Nathan Daems, Farnoosh Khodadadeh and Seraphine Stragier.
