The romantic song cycle Frauenliebe und -leben features the testimony of an ecstatically enamoured lady – as articulated by Robert Schumann. A male view on female affection: empathy or projection? Marie-Claude Chappuis and Ulrike Payer juxtapose Schumann’s songs with the sounds of his eternal beloved, Clara Wieck, while Fanny Mendelssohn musically retorts to her brother Felix.
A production of MAfestival, presented in collaboration with Concertgebouw Brugge
Wiebke Lehmkuhl will need to cancel her recital on 10 August due to medical reasons. We are grateful to present you a worthy alternative, however: the Swiss mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis has kindly agreed to step in.
