The new opera Woman at Point Zero is based on the classic 1975 novel of the same name by Egyptian author Nawal El Sadaawi. In it she describes her meeting with Firdaus, a woman on death row in a Cairo prison, who shares her life story with her the night before her execution. Composer Bushra El-Turk, director Laila Soliman, writer Stacy Hardy and filmmaker Aida Elkashef turn this universal story of exploitation, sacrifice and a search for freedom into a gripping and poignant multimedia production.
