Not a note too many or too few. That is how Beethoven's new symphonic style sounded to the ears of his contemporaries. Even nowadays, it is hard to resist the cast-iron musical logic of his Fourth Symphony. Likewise Schumann's only completed piano concerto: a tender but encrypted declaration of love to his wife Clara. He derived the motif that runs through this concerto like a glittering thread from the letters of her first name. Javier Perianes, and Philippe Herreweghe and his Antwerp Symphony Orchestra crack the code for us.
Alexander Lonquich will be replaced by Javier Perianes.
