Baiba Skride combines technical brilliance and gentle melancholy

Since her victory in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001, Baiba Skride has become an essential part of the international violin scene. For us she makes Mendelsohn's Violin Concerto sound like a summer stroll through a delightful landscape. Beethoven said that his Sixth Symphony, the Pastoral, was ‘more expression of feeling than painting’. Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and their honorary conductor Philippe Herreweghe bring Beethoven's multicoloured inner world back to life.
