No greater opposites imaginable than Schubert and Rossini! Iván Fischer nevertheless guides his orchestra unerringly from Rossini's capricious melodies to the sledgehammer blows that open Schubert's Tragic Symphony. The binding agent is Mozart’s Seventeenth Piano Concerto. At the piano is Emanuel Ax, a former laureate of our Queen Elisabeth Competition. Ax can conjure up the neatly measured dance steps of this graceful music from the keyboard like no other.
