Born pianist Emanuel Ax glitters in Classical and Romantic repertoire

An evening in E-flat major, a key that lends itself perfectly to solemn grandeur. The fanfare that opens Mozart's Twenty-second Piano Concerto sets the scene: this evening the brass section will play a starring role. It is they who open Bruckner's Romantic Symphony, with a peaceful horn proclaiming the day, against a muted buzz of strings. No better guide to lead us through these sumptuous sound landscapes than Iván Fischer, with his unerring feel for this symphony’s arcs of tension.
