There’s no better prelude to Christmas than Bach's festive Christmas Oratorio. In the run-up to Christmas 1734, fifty-year-old Bach – then at the height of his artistic power – put together a complete Christmas oratorio in just a few weeks. He managed this by drawing from his entire oeuvre and thus rescued some of his most beautiful melodies from oblivion. Two top Belgian ensembles tackle Bach's joyous Christmas story.
