The melodic, highly-expressive slave songs of the late 19th century are rapturously received on stages not just in the USA but across the world. Ken Burton – a leading British conductor, composer, arranger and experienced teacher – has a particular love for gospel and Negro spirituals. During this repertoire day, he will familiarise us with this Afro-American vocal tradition. And afterwards, we will form a huge choir that sings out its longings, cares and protests with heart and soul.
