To the spiritual Sufis the sound of the ney was like a soul separated from God going in search of heaven. This reed flute therefore plays a crucial role in their music; it brings both listener and performer closer to liberating ecstasy. Tristan Driessens and living legend Kudsi Ergüner put together an enlightening programme that takes us from refined Sufi poetry to dance music from Anatolia. A very personal way of praying, inspired by mystical love.
Johan Van Acker interviews Kudsi Ergüner and Tristan Driessens (in English) as an introduction to the concert.
