Ignace Bossuyt puts Monteverdi’s masterpiece into context
In 2017 we commemorate the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth. In its day, the music he composed was revolutionary and ultramodern. Even now it has lost none of its drama and expressiveness. One of Monteverdi's most famous works is the Vespro della Beata Vergine (Marian Vespers). Ignace Bossuyt takes a closer look at Western vespers compositions, paying particular attention to those of Monteverdi.
