From big bang to apocalypse, about beginning and rebeginning
With a festival built around (re)birth, we take the first step in a five-year cycle based on the phases of a human life: life is cyclical, new life rises from the ashes of the old. Doomsday images of imminent annihilation are of all eras. In the famous 14th-century Flemish Apocalypse Tapestry of Angers, war was the culprit. Nowadays, we naturally think of climate catastrophe. For many artists, apocalypse and a subsequent fresh start are very inspiring. What if we really could start again with a blank page? The (RE)BIRTH festival moves between beginning and end, with creation narratives and creations that make the transition from dark to light.
