Science as starting point of a staggering audiovisual trip
Data sonification is the conversion of data into non-speech sound. Scientists often do this to examine an immense amount of info more quickly. Artists do it for aesthetic reasons. Visual and musical centipede Herman Kolgen, for instance, sonifies real-time seismic data from Sao Paulo to Kyoto. Valery Vermeulen and Hiroshi Matoba, on the other hand, use data from outer space. In both cases, the end results are astonishing sonic and visual trips.
