An installation transforms into a capricious, sensual and provocative spectacle

Visionary art innovator Sergei Diaghilev – ‘the brilliant general of the Arts’ – was the inspiration for the musical theatre production змея. As a seductive charlatan, more interested in logic than in principles and utterly without talent, he had everything he needed to become the perfect patron, except money. With the cunning, creativity and ambiguity of a snake (змея), he gradually wound his way into the public’s consciousness in the early 20th century – via his Ballets Russes, for instance – and thus revealed a new hedonistic and aesthetic sensitivity. This new performance by Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop and Luigi De Angelis also twists and winds, but this time like a musical whirlwind that rushes through the concert hall and beyond. змея begins as an installation, but transforms into a capricious, sensual and provocative spectacle. Just the way Diaghilev would have wanted.
