Christmas all the way with the rising stars of Vox Luminis

Bach has his renowned Weihnachtsoratorium, Berlioz his famous Enfance du Christ, but far less well known is Schütz' colourful Weihnachtshistorie from 1664. For this festive occasion, Schütz pulled out all the stops. Angels and shepherds, Herod and his advisors, each gets a delightful miniature portrait, painted with violins, gambas, trombones, flutes and cornetts. Above the score, Schütz noted proudly that he was the first in Germany to publish recitatives in the Italian style, a legacy of his training in Italy. Full of the emerging Venetian Baroque, he stunned his homeland with his unprecedented expression. In this Christmas concert, featuring the finest examples of the new North German style, specialists in the small and delicate Vox Luminis give voice to a musical revolution.
